Christmas in Milan – Main Christmas markets, events and how to reach them

 

Christmas is a magical time to visit Milan. For the whole month of December, the city is filled with Christmas markets, sparkling Christmas trees, ice skating rings and lots of Christmas events and celebrations. You can easily discover them all walking through the streets, or moving around Milan with public transports. Here are just a few of the things not to miss in Milan at Christmastime:

 

CHRISTMAS MARKET IN PIAZZA DUOMO

All over Europe, Christmas markets are a long tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages. They originated in Germany, but can be now found in all the main European cities, and Milan is no exception. Here, the largest Christmas market takes place in Piazza Duomo, with over 60 wooden chalets selling all kinds of handmade gifts and treats. This market is open from 9am to 9pm, so you will able to enjoy it during the day, or for an evening stroll. Moreover, in the nearby of this market you will find some of the main shopping streets in Milan, such as Corso Vittorio Emanuele and via Montenapoleone: the ideal places for some Christmas shopping!

OH BEJ! OH BEJ! MARKET 

Another very important Christmas fair in Milan is the traditional Oh Bej! Oh Bej!” market, that takes place from the 7 to the 11 of December in front of Castello Sforzesco. It is mainly dedicated to crafts and antiques. Here, you will find stalls for your Christmas shopping, alternated with those to buy. delicious and traditional food, thus discovering typical milanese Christmas dishes and snacks.  Reaching this fair is very simple, with the following public transports:

VILLAGGIO DELLE MERAVIGLIE

From the 19 of November until the 8th of January the Indro Montanelli Gardens near Porta Venezia are home to the 16th Villaggio delle Meraviglie, the first theme park in Milan dedicated to Christmas, where the House of Santa Claus, the elves market, the stalls with sweet and savoury delights, a 1.000 square meter skating rink, flying sleighs, entertainment corners and many shopping opportunities welcome thousands of kids with their families every year. You can easily reach this unmissable fair with Milan public transports:
